Spanish professional football club, Real Madrid will retain Belgian national, Eden Hazard for one more year at least, Marca confirms.
Naija News reports that Madrid got kicked out in the UEFA Champions League semi-final on Wednesday, May 5 after a 2-0 defeat to English Premier League club, Chelsea FC.
Madrid’s manager, Zinedine Zidane, put Hazard on the start last night, a gamble that backfired as the Belgian was put in a corner by Chelsea’s defence before he was eventually taken off in the dying minutes of the game.
However, despite the player’s poor form with the club, Madrid is willing to keep him till next season and resist the temptation to cut their losses.
The club’s board are said to back Zidane’s decision to coax the player out of his slump by continuing to pick him ahead of Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez.
Speaking after the game last night, Zidane said of Hazard: “He needs a run of games. Eden has to play, he has to recover his confidence and all that, but by playing games. It’s a gradual process. It’s his second game in a row and we have to get him back playing.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has charged his players to end the season by booking their place in the Europa League final.
The North London side will host former manager, Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday for the second leg of their semi-final with Villarreal, Naija News reports.
