Barely 24 hours after the Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed visited the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the party’s G5 governors have arrived in Bauchi State to also see Mohammed.
Naija News reports that the aggrieved G5 governors led by the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike are currently in the state capital to lure Bala Mohammed to join their camp.
Information gathered by Naija News revealed that Wike, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) arrived at the Bauchi Government House around 12:30 without their colleague, the Oyo Governor, Seyi Makinde.
The G-5 has been demanding the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition to support Atiku in 2023.
The aggrieved PDP governors are therefore trying to capitalize on the rumoured rift between Mohammed and Atiku to woo him to their side.
In his letter to Ayu, Mohammed opened up on how Atiku’s action hurt him and demanded an apology.
Atiku was bent on “punishing him for contesting the presidential primary and not stepping down for him,” he claimed.
The governor was reported to have claimed that Atike sidelined him by visiting other aspirants, but refused to visit him.
The Bauchi Governor, who doubles as vice chairman of the Atiku Campaign Council in the Northeast, also alleged that Atiku picked campaign coordinators from his State without consultation with him.
Mohammed’s letter of November 3 to the national chairman forced Ayu to lead a delegation to Bauchi last Saturday to appease him.
Meanwhile, Naija News reported earlier that governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Tuesday paid a visit to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
Naija News reports that the visit is coming amidst a rumoured rift between the two PDP stalwarts.
Recall that the Bauchi State governor had sent a letter to the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, accusing Atiku of looking away as crises consumed the party’s structure in Bauchi.
In a statement to newsmen by the New Media Aide to Bauchi Governor, Lawal Muazu Bauchi, Bala Mohammed led a delegation of Bauchi State stakeholders of the PDP to Abuja, on a courtesy visit to Atiku in honour of an invitation by the National Chairman of the Party, Iyorchia Ayu.
Members of the delegation were Senators Bala Kariya and Adamu Gumba, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Abubakar Sulaiman and PPS, Samaila Burga.
Also in attendance were Ayu, DG PDP Presidential Campaign Council, and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and former governor of Jigawa Sule Lamido.
“Issues related to unity and the progress of the Party were discussed and amicably addressed,” the statement said.
