The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conducted a traditional farewell ceremony, known as a ‘Fly Out,’ for its immediate past Chief, Air Marshal, Oladayo Amao, on Saturday.

The ceremony is customary for the NAF, marking the retirement of its Chiefs after they’ve served the country.

Air Marshal Amao left his position as the Chief of Air Staff after President Bola Tinubu appointed AVM Hassan Abubakar to replace him on June 19. This move prompted Amao’s instant retirement from service.

In his farewell speech, Amao thanked both God and the members of the air force for their support during his service.

He noted that the event marked a major highlight in his career, filled with achievements that led to his appointment as the 21st Chief of Air Staff.

He expressed appreciation for the “dedicated and competent” officers and personnel who played vital roles in ensuring the nation’s safety and security.

Amao said, “Your professionalism, skills, and unwavering commitments have truly made a difference in the defence of our skies.”

He further acknowledged the challenges faced during his term, both domestically and abroad, but praised the NAF for showing “unmatched capabilities and tenacity in addressing contemporary challenges.”

The event was attended by numerous prominent figures. These included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Kana; the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa; other service chiefs, ex-service chiefs; commanders from tri-service institutions; and principal staff officers from defence and service headquarters, among others.

Air Marshal Amao closed his remarks by recognizing the efforts of his predecessors and thanking the past service chiefs for their synergy.

He encouraged his successor to continue down the same path for the betterment of the nation.
