The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has reacted to the kidnap of 73 students of Government Day Secondary School, Kaya in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Naija News had reported that bandit terrorists invaded the school around 11am when the students were preparing to write their mock examinations.
Reacting to the latest abduction, ACF berated the government for failing to protect the students and stop the incessant abduction of students in the North.
Speaking with The PUNCH on Wednesday evening, National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Emmanuel Yawe, expressed sadness over the latest abduction.
Yawe demanded the sack of Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara for failing to protect the citizens, adding that the ACF was not happy with the activities of bandits.
He said: “So, what has he (Matawalle) put in place? People should not just make pronouncements. If he is calling on the people to rise up and defend themselves, he should be able to supplement all the efforts that the people are making.
“It is the responsibility of the government to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens. That’s the primary responsibility of the government. If the government cannot do that, the government has no reason to exist.”
Meanwhile, Governor Bello Matawalle-led Zamfara State Government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in all 14 local government areas in the state.
Naija News reports that the Zamfara government also closed schools, both private and public, operating in all the local governments in the state.
According to TVC News, the curfew is from eight o’clock in the evening to seven o’clock in the morning.
“The move, according to authorities, is to control the rising cases of banditry and kidnapping in the state,” it said.
