Biography: Conchita Martínez is a Spanish former professional tennis player and current coach.
She is best known as the first Spanish player to win the women's singles title at Wimbledon where she beat Martina Navratilova in the 1994 final.
She reached her world ranking high of #2 in October 1995 and finished the season in the Top 10 for 9 consecutive years.
Martinez couldn't quite reach the dizzy heights of 1994-5 again although she was runner-up at the 1998 Australian Open and the 2000 French Open.
She was a member of the winning Spanish Federation Cup teams in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1998 and was the team captain 2013-2017 as well as the Spanish Davis Cup team captain 2015-2017.
Martínez won the 2021 WTA Coach of the Year award for her work coaching Garbiñe Muguruza.
