Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the Super Eagles’ exit from the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) holding in Cameroon.

Naija News reports that Nigeria crashed out of the tournament on Sunday after a 0-1 loss to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the Round of 16.

A second-half goal from Youssef Msakni was enough to send the three-time African champions out of the tournament.

Giving his thoughts on the match via his Twitter handle on Sunday, Atiku commended the Super Eagles for their display at the tournament and appreciated them for the successes recorded so far.

The former Presidential candidate advised the team to quickly put the loss behind them and ensure that Nigeria qualify for the World Cup in March.

Following Nigeria’s knockout from AFCON, all attention now shifts to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against historical rivals Ghana in March.

He wrote: “We must never give up. I appreciate our players and the entire Team Nigeria for the successes so far. We may have lost out of the #AFCON2021 at this point, but our sights should be trailed on the Qatar World Cup qualifying game against Ghana #WeKeepMoving.”
