- A poll by TUKO.co.ke has shown Ruto will take lead with 64% votes against Governor Mutua's 36% if the duo is to compete in 2022 presidential election
- Mutua recently reaffirmed his position that he will vie for presidency when President Uhuru's tenure comes to an end in 2022
- Earlier, he had recorded a statement with police claiming DP Ruto and his allies have issued threats against him
- Some netizens have criticised the governor over his claims terming them as sideshows for political sympathy
A recently conducted poll has shown that Deputy President William Ruto will emerge victorious if he locks horns in the 2022 presidential election with Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
The TUKO.co.ke poll that ran from Monday, December 23, to Tuesday, December 24, saw some 5,200 people vote and also defend their choices.

Ruto took lead by garnering 64% of the votes against Governor Mutua's 36%.
The survey came shortly after the combative county boss reaffirmed his position that he was going to vie in the 2022 presidential election that other political heavyweights like DP Ruto and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya have also expressed interest in.

Others that have also hinted on participating in the 2022 State House race are former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
When tasked with defending his choice, Philip Gichuki who voted for Ruto, said the DP had a tough character that was needed in reinstating the country's lost glory.
"His dictatorship character will bring this country back to its track. Kenya needs a dictator...The likes of Ruto and Matiang'i," Gichuki wrote on Facebook.READ ALSO: Kenya Power staff colluded with brokers to rig billing systems, steal KSh 100 million - DCI
Oscar Abdalla struck out Mutua as a choice he would consider claiming the county chief had not amassed countrywide recognition.
This, he said, was set to limit his chances of trouncing in such a high stake election
"Mutua is only known in Machakos junction. Not even town.Town ni ya Wavinya Ndeti," Abdalla reacted.Others like Kavi Karuga, poured cold water on Mutua's candidature, claiming the governor was not man enough to handle pressure that comes with the big job.
Karuga singled out latest claims by the county chief that Ruto had issued threats on his life terming them as publicity sideshows from a weak leader.
"Mutua was recently greeted by the DP and he started crying...How will he deal with dictators both homegrown, regionally and internationally...He needs to grow," Karuga said. Those who supported Mutua's bid described him as a man whose development track record was unmatched.
"Mutua all the way... Akona maendeleo sana (Mutua is good at delivering development projects)," Vero Mueni commented.Sammy Muraya, however, chose to be neutral stating that it was time Kenyans voted in fresh blood and shun recycling leaders.
"Let seek alternative leadership," said Muraya.Muraya's sentiments were echoed by Gasue B Gitari who criticised those who voted for Ruto, arguing that the DP occupied an influential position in the same government a section of Kenyans has termed as incompetent.
"I am shocked you want Ruto who is second in command in the government that you always complain about," Gitari replied.Other reactions:
