In a Facebook post on Friday, October 4, he said he would take a break from media to concentrate on other matters which he did not make public.
Though there are unconfirmed reports he may soon join a rival media house, Hussein has remained cagey on his next destination but only confirmed he would be back "soon".
'It has been a wonderful 10 years at Citizen TV. I have enjoyed and relished every moment I shared with my colleagues at RMS. I have decided to take a break after October In Sha Allah to concentrate on other matters. Loved the fans, the critics and everything in between. See you soon," he wrote.Citizen TV has recently been experiencing mass exit by some of its best talent, with Anne Kiguta and Fred Indimuli switching loyalty to Mediamax Limited's K24 TV.
But the station has also been in a 'poaching' spree in the recent past, targeting big names in the industry.
Hussein's exit came amid reports the media house was seeking to downsize and save on cost.
