Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo has dismissed reports that Opposition leader Raila Odinga was heckled at his political backyard in Muhoroni, Kisumu county, during a tour of government projects in the region.

The lawmaker said report by a section of the media was misleading as the matter in contention during the commotion that ensued had nothing to do with Raila but rather the county government.

Speaking to NTV on Tuesday, May 14, Amollo said the heckling was motivated by the residents' need for compensation for a piece of land which the county had set aside for construction of the special economic zone.

"There were probably about between five and seven boys who tried to heckle but the residents roughed them up and evicted them, so it is not that the residents were heckling Raila as reported," he said. "As I understand the issue with the boys was not about Raila but the county government, their issue was that the land which is about 500 acres where the Special Economic Zone is to be set is owned by the county as trust land. Their problem is not that they are opposed to it but they want historical compensation given the land belonged to their ancestors," he elaborated.

As was earlier reported by TUKO.co.ke, the former prime minister had accompanied Petroleum CS John Munyes, Peter Munya (Industrialization) and James Macharia (Transport) on an inspection tour of state projects expected to woo China into financing SGR extension to Kisumu.

Hell broke loose when the African Union (AU) envoy asked locals to allow for construction of the park on their land arguing it was more important and profitable than practicing small scale farming.

The incident prompted the security team to step in and calm the situation living the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader in dilemma and embarrassed.

"Why are you embarrassing me? I am bringing development yet you are not keen on the projects that will benefit you," wondered Raila.
